Chloroquine is a medication used to prevent and to treat malaria in areas where malaria is known to be sensitive to its effects. Certain types of malaria, resistant strains, and complicated cases typically require different or additional medication. For treatment of acute attacks of malaria in adults, one dose is usually taken right away, followed by half the dose 6 to 8 hours later and then half the dose once a day for the next 2 days. For prevention and treatment of malaria in infants and children, the amount of chloroquine phosphate is based on the child's weight.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend against treatment of malaria with chloroquine alone due to more effective combinations. In areas where resistance is present, other antimalarials, such as mefloquine or atovaquone, may be used instead.

After taking it, does it make you feel all of sudden really tired? I recently started taking it in September and it seems like after about 5-10 minutes of taking it, I feel super tired and sleepy.
