The clinical trials on this list are studying Hydroxychloroquine. NCI’s basic information about clinical trials explains the types and phases of trials and how they are carried out. Clinical trials look at new ways to prevent, detect, or treat disease.

The pharmacological profile of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, however, appear to involve mechanisms other than autophagy inhibition. Here, we discuss the dual role of autophagy in oncogenesis and tumor progression, and summarize the results or design of clinical studies recently completed or initiated to evaluate the therapeutic activity of chloroquine derivatives in cancer patients. Chloroquine CQ and hydroxychloroquine HCQ, two antimalarial drugs, are suggested to have potential anticancer properties. in the present study, we investigated the effects of CQ and HCQ on cell growth of bladder cancer with emphasis on autophagy inhibition and apoptosis induction in vitro. Objective To assess the efficacy of chloroquine Aralen phosphate and hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil sulfate in the treatment of patients with neurosarcoidosis who either do not respond to corticosteroid therapy or develop unacceptable side effects. Cesses of autophagy is a more preferable approach in cancer therapy, however, and is now under investigation 28. Chloroquine in the Kidney, the Double-Edged Sword of Autophagy The use of chloroquine in combination with other chemo-therapeutic reagents may enhance cancer treatment 8, 29, but normal cells also use autophagy to maintain homeostasis, As an essential evolutionary catabolic process of cytoplasmatic component digestion, it is generally believed that modulating autophagic activity, through targeting specific regulatory actors in the core autophagy machinery, may impact disease processes. The process of finding new therapeutic indications for currently used drugs, defined as ‘repurposing’, is receiving growing attention. Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, with an original indication to prevent or cure malaria, have been successfully used to treat several infectious HIV, Q fever, Whipple’s disease, fungal infections, rheumatological systemic lupus erythematosus.

Methotrexate MTX vs. Cellcept for Lupus DailyStrength Between plaquenil and CellCept, my joint pains and sun reaction are no longer a problem. My Sjogrens dryness is improved as well. CellCept is a newer drug for our purpose, but it's the basic drug for patients with organ transplants. They take it in higher doses for life. I don't have Rx coverage on my insurance and I think CellCept is more $$ than MTX.
