Plaquenil is a disease-modifying drug originally developed to treat malaria. Plaquenil is believed to work by interfering in communication between the cells of the immune system. How do I take it? You may need to see an ophthalmologist not an optometrist for a checkup before beginning to take Plaquenil. Plaquenil changes the way your immune system works. In some kinds of lupus, your immune system attacks your body instead of protecting it. Plaquenil tries to quiet or slow down the immune system. How do you take Plaquenil? You take Plaquenil as a pill 1 or 2 times a day. Take the pills with food or milk. Your body weight will tell your doctor. I think you need to discuss this issue with your RD. Let him or her know you want some control, but not to make your immune system go permanently insane. I do think that Plaquenil is the mildest drug you can find. I think they all get stronger and more immune-suppressant from there, but I might be wrong!

It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. Plaquenil is the brand name for the prescription drug hydroxychloroquine.

  5. I started on plaquenil about 3-4 yrs ago and now the last two yrs I've gotten sick several times. They use plaquenil to suppress your immune system to slow it down, not speed it up. Your system is working overtime, so IMO, its stronger and that causes the problems we have the body needs a nice nuetral immune system working normally.

Like controlling high APS? or ana's. Does it help somewhat there? The immune system. I have suffered 3 miscarriages and due to my APS being high.i have + ANA.i wasnt on my meds at the time i know dumb I'm back on 200mg of plaquenil and baby aspirin. I do have 3 children so i have carried to term with lupus.i wasnt on any meds then either. Basically, the immune system is a bit out of control. Plaquenil works by suppressing the immune system. Unfortunately you can't tell it to attack just the germs so you suppress all of its function to spare your healthy tissue- in your husband's case, his eyes, mouth, throat. NOTE Plaquinil and hydroxychloroquine are essentially the same drug. What is hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil, and how does it work mechanism of action? What brand names are available for hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil? Is hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil available as a generic drug? Do I need a prescription for hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil? What are the side effects of hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil?

Chloroquine has long been used in the treatment or prevention of malaria from Plasmodium vivax, P. malariae, excluding the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum, for it started to develop widespread resistance to it.
