Hello all! Looking for some answers about taking plaquenil during pregnancy. I don’t have lupus but have been on plaquenil to manage muscle/joint pain and fatigue related to having Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Stopping antimalarial drugs during pregnancy therefore not only puts the mother's health at risk but can also compromise the outcome of pregnancy. METHODS We document 9 pregnancies in 8 patients with lupus, all of whom took hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil throughout pregnancy. I found out that I was pregnant at 6 months into the pregnancy. Which means I'd been on Plaquenil for the whole thing. My rheumatologist said it was fine, and my perinatologist freaked out. Basically, Plaquenil hasn't been studied on pregnant women because you CAN'T test it on pregnant women.
