    Stopped my plaquenil

I've been on plaquenil for 6 months for suspected Sjogren's syndrome (I don't have antibodies for Sjorgren's or Lupus but I do have Hashimoto's and have all the symptoms for Sjorgren's so the rheumatologist suggested a trial of plaquenil). Basically I've been on the drug since January and saw the rheumatologist on Wednesday to see how things are going.

Plaquenil not working anymore I got real sick a year ago ANA 4 speckled pattern and my Rheumatologist started me on Hydroxychloriquine Plaquenil. After just a few weeks I felt wonderful. When my doc was telling me about. the plaquenil and some symptoms I might experience, he told me to stop taking it if I felt weird in any way. ok, my tongue swelled and felt itchy and burny. Well, after day three I decided it wasn't a minor thing and called my doc. So now, no more plaquenil. I am on nothing and I'm in pain all over again. yay me. I stopped taking it after 2 weeks and had my doctor write for BRAND NAME ONLY. After about 8-9 months I complained to my doctor that the Plaquenil wasn't helping me and I had to take.

I do think it's helped with fatigue and muscle pain but it's hard for me to compare to Xmas as when the improvement is so gradual I think it's really hard to notice on a gradual basis. I *think* I'm improving but it's been a gradual process and I said to him that it's quite hard to tell how much of an improvement I'm feeling.

  3. I had to stop Plaquenil after a few days. I couldn't walk, was dizzy, my speech was slurred, blurry vision, etc. but, I'm the one who usually gets side effects. I know people who Plaquenil has worked wonders. The side effects cleared up within a week. I also have Sjorgens, and my eyes were dryer on Plaquenil, but the blurry vision was the worst.

One of the problems with Plaquenil is that because it's so slow to act, the improvements are also slow and subtle. So most people don't realize that they've improved until they STOP taking it. I've been on it twice, along with Atabrine another antimalarial. In my case, it never worked so I didn't notice a change. Aug 26, 2016 My new rheumy, after running a trillion tests, has said that if it weren't for my previous rheumy's test results, he would say I did not have lupus. So, I asked about coming off of plaquenil. He said that I could stop plaquenil cold turkey. It slowly decreases effectiveness in the body. Hydroxychloroquine is a DMARD. The brand name is Plaquenil. What does Plaquenil do? Plaquenil relieves pain and swelling and prevents damage to joints. How long does Plaquenil take to work? Plaquenil works very slowly. In 1 to 3 months you should start to feel better. You may continue to get better for up to 1 year.
