    Hypoglycemia and plaquenil

Hydroxychloroquine is available as the brand-name drug Plaquenil. Generic drugs usually cost less than the brand-name version. Hydroxychloroquine may be used as part of a combination therapy.

Hypoglycemia, PLAQUENIL should be discontinued and alternative therapy considered. If patients use PLAQUENIL concomitantly with antidiabetic drugs, a decrease in doses of insulin or antidiabetic drugs may be required as PLAQUENIL may enhance the effects of hypoglycemic treatment see DRUG INTERACTIONS and ADVERSE REACTIONS. Hematologic Hyperglycemia is found among people who take Plaquenil, especially for people who are female, 50-59 old, have been taking the drug for 2 - 5 years, also take medication Methotrexate, and have Osteoporosis. Mar 07, 2011 So back to the Sjogren's World Forums participant this person noticed that after beginning to take Plaquenil, it became more difficult to keep her diabetes in control occasionally her blood sugar became too low and she had symptoms of hypoglycemia feeling very anxious, tremor, feeling suddenly very hungry, perspiring heavily, and feeling faint. Several others chimed in, many of whom were not diabetic, and said that they noticed the same thing.

Hydroxychloroquine is used to treat lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. It isn’t fully understood how this drug works to treat lupus erythematosus or rheumatoid arthritis. That means you may need to take it with other drugs. It treats malaria by killing the parasites that cause the disease.

Plaquenil and hypoglycemia? Has anyone experienced this side effect? Newly diagnosed with early RA, rheumatologist started me on 200mg Plaquenil 1x/day for first two weeks, going up to 2x/day after two weeks. She told me it's very safe and generally well tolerated. Then about a week after going up to the full dosage I woke up feeling shaky. Sorry I probably didn't explain my thinking very well. After I've eaten something with a high sugar content like a bar of chocolate it won't be straight away that I get this feeling but a time after. from my understanding the surge in sugar is combated by a release of insulin by the body but when this has occurred the insulin levels remain higher for a time and cause the low blood sugar. A decreased dose of the antidiabetic agent may be necessary as severe hypoglycemia has been reported in patients treated concomitantly with hydroxychloroquine and an antidiabetic agent. Nebivolol Moderate Monitor for increased toxicity as well as increased therapeutic effect of nebivolol if coadministered with hydroxychloroquine.

Narrow Angle Glaucoma There are a number of narrow angle or “closed angle” glaucoma medications to avoid due to the fact that they block acetylcholine, the chemical that keeps the eye angle open. Had to stop taking Plaquenil - Protecting your eyesight when taking Plaquenil Lupus. What is the correct way to discontinue use of plaquenil?

Methotrexate or Plaquenil? DailyStrength Plaquinel was one of the earlier drugs I took for RA and it did not work. Methotrexate pills did not work either. My doctor switched me to Methotrexate injections before going to the bigger guns. It works along with antibotic theraphy. Plaquinel has side effects too, it is just a decision you need to make as it is your body.

    What step comes after plaquenil?

When treating the condition in adults, chloroquine is usually taken twice a day for one day and then once a day for two more days.
