I recently decided to stop taking Plaquenil because I was having constant chest pains even more so than I usually have due to Lupus. Since I have not taken it my chest feels so much better which is odd because chest pain is not listed as a side effect. Also I noticed that the Plaquenil I think was making me feel different but not in a good way.

So am thinking maybe I should give it a whirl and take it at night. Most sites say you should take it in the morning; a couple suggested taking it at night if you feel drowsy on it. I'd say after a year it has been an improvement over Lexapro or not taking an SSRI. When I first started taking it, I felt very drowsy and yawned a lot. I seem to sleep more lightly than before but overall sleep seems better.

I could be wrong, but I thought Plaquenil builds up in your system so guess I don't understand the idea of taking it all in the morning. I thought keeping in your system at consistent levels would be best. I take it at breakfast and right after dinner.

Hi, I saw a rheumy for the first time last week, and he prescribed plaquenil, 200 mg twice a day. Didn't diagnose with Lupus yet, but said I definitely have something autoimmune going on and the plaq will help with the fatigue. He warned that it could take 2-6 months, though, which is what I've read here too. If rheumatoid arthritis has you tossing and turning at night, you’re not alone. While the exact percentage of RA patients who experience sleep problems is hard to nail down, more than 80% of people with RA report fatigue as part of their symptoms.
