    Plaquenil and doxycycline

He reported a history of tick bite and rash in 2002. The knee pain and other symptoms rapidly improved over the next two weeks. He received a short course of antibiotics at that time. After two weeks he reported that the antibiotics were causing nightmares and insomnia. Then one week later he complained of confusion and unsteadiness.

Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine belongs to a group of medicines called quinolines. Plaquenil is used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia. Medicines that may cause Plaquenil interactions include digoxin, cyclosporine, and mefloquine. This eMedTV resource contains a more detailed list of drugs that may interact with Plaquenil and describes the potential effects of these interactions. My doctor started me on plaquenil in combination with minocycline for my first round of treatment. I know minocycline is an antibiotic related to doxycycline, yet I looked plaquenil up and found that it is a DMARD, used to treat malaria, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

He continued to improve rapidly once more with a cessation of neurocognitive symptoms. When I saw him initially he complained of knee pain and swelling, fatigue, generalized arthralgia (joint pain), numbness and tingling and an irregular heart beat. I diagnosed a "brain Herx." I added Plaquenil back, as well as Welchol, presumptively to remove "neurotoxins." I also reduced the dose of Amoxicillin and Minocin.

  3. Hi Chris, welcome to this forum. Of course it is hard to say what the cause is of the increase of symptoms. But I remember I was also feeling a bit worse in the first weeks after I had started taking clarithromycin and hydroxychloroquine.

Doxycycline for their RA? I was diagnosed last year. with Lupus & RA and have tried Orencia, plaquenil, methotrexate, prednisone and more. I was given. Doxycycline last month by my dermatologist for some. cystic acne that started on my jawline as a side. effect to the Orencia. After about a week on the Doxy. I noticed that I was able to. I take both doxycycline {doryx and plaquenil. The dorxy is the only thing that helped clear my rash on my face. The plaquenil helps with my joint issues. Also, dorxy wreaks my digestive system like nobody's business, so I am not hoping to stay on it too long. Hope this info helps you. C Many different medications can react negatively with Plaquenil. This eMedTV page covers interactions with beta blockers, certain parasite medications, cyclosporine, digoxin, mefloquine, and phenothiazines, and explains how to avoid complications.

Antiboitics Amoxicillin - You might be allergic to that strain of antibiotics. I'm allergic to the penicillin family and I get the same symptoms as you have mentioned here. Definitely stop taking it. Contact your gp and let them know all your symptoms. If you see a rash anywhere try to get a picture of it and see your gp. No, not all antibiotics will do this to you.
